Who is Shawna Knox Giacomini?

My coaching career didn't begin in healthcare — it began in the corporate world. A decade inside Southeast Toyota Distributors — one of the most demanding high-performance corporate cultures in the country. I was promoted again and again. By every external measure, I was thriving.

Inside, I was falling apart.

The higher I rose, the easier it was to ignore the signals. I was exceptional at performing. I was terrible at listening to my own body.

At 47, my body made the decision for me. My doctor’s words stopped me cold: “If you don’t change what you’re doing, you’re on track for an actual stroke.”

That was the moment I stopped managing symptoms and started looking for causes. I went deep — into the science, into the research, into a field most conventional medicine still underserves. I became a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, trained alongside functional medicine physicians at Thrive Carolinas, and eventually those physicians started sending me their patients.

The ones who were ready for more than a prescription.

The patients got results. What started with individual coaching eventually opened the door to corporate wellness partnerships with organizations including Belk Corporate, CuraLinc, and Marquee Health.

I know what it’s like when life looks good on paper, but your body is telling a different story. That’s exactly who I built this practice for.

What happens on the free discovery call?

We spend about 30 minutes in conversation — about where you are, what you’ve already tried, and what’s not working. You’ll leave with a clearer picture of what might be driving your symptoms and a sense of whether we’re a good fit. There’s no sales pitch — just an honest conversation and a chance to see if this feels like the right next step.

Is this therapy? Nutrition coaching? What exactly is this?

Think of it as a bridge between medical care and everyday life. I’m a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) with specialized training in insulin resistance and metabolic health. I work alongside your existing medical team — not instead of them. Together, we connect the dots between your symptoms, habits, sleep, stress, nutrition, and lifestyle, then build a practical plan that fits your real life. I don’t diagnose, prescribe, or replace your physician. I help you understand what’s getting in the way and what to do next.

How is this different from what I’ve already tried?

Most approaches focus on one piece of the puzzle — a diet plan, a supplement, a sleep protocol, or an exercise program. My work looks at how blood sugar regulation, hormones, stress, sleep, and daily habits interact with one another. When those pieces are viewed together, the symptoms often start to make more sense. Most of my clients have tried a lot before they find their way here. I don’t see that as failure. I see it as part of the story — and often an important clue to what’s really going on.

Do I need a diagnosis before I reach out?

No. Many clients come to me specifically because they don’t have a diagnosis — their doctors say everything looks normal, but they know something isn’t right. That gap between “your labs are fine” and how you actually feel is often exactly where my work begins.

How long does this take to see results?

It depends on what’s driving your symptoms and how long it’s been building. Some clients notice meaningful shifts within the first few weeks. Deeper changes — in energy, weight, sleep, and focus — typically take several months of consistent work. We’ll talk about what’s realistic for your situation and what progress might look like along the way.

What if I can’t commit to weekly sessions right now?

We design a plan that works with your life, not against it. I work with busy professionals who can’t always predict their schedule. What matters most is consistency over time, not a rigid weekly structure. We’ll figure out what’s realistic for you.

What are your qualifications?

I’m a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) — the gold standard credential in health coaching — with specialized training in insulin resistance and metabolic health. I trained alongside functional medicine physicians at Thrive Carolinas, where I serve as a clinical health coach. I also bring 30+ years of corporate and business leadership experience, which shapes how I coach high performers specifically. My corporate partnerships include Belk Corporate, CuraLinc, and Marquee Health.

Do you work with my existing doctor or medical team?

Yes — and I encourage it. I’m not a replacement for your physician. I’m the bridge between what your doctor identifies and what you need to actually implement. Many of my clients are referred directly by their physicians, and I welcome that collaboration. If your doctor isn’t familiar with metabolic health coaching, I’m happy to provide information about my scope of practice.

Do you work with corporations and organizations?

Yes. I work with organizations through speaking engagements, wellness partnerships, and dedicated associate health coaching programs.
